DJing

The first time I officially DJ’d was at the launch for Bar Wotever. I had played some records at Club Attitude before, but couldn’t really say that I DJ’d. I was extremely nervous especially considering my slightly eccentric musical taste. I wrote out a complete set-list and for some reason threw in the back of my disc box a few ‘secret weapons’ (which for some ungodly reason included Aerosmith’s ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady’ and Metallica’s black album). I threw the set-list out after the first 2 songs and had a great time playing to a wonderful crowd. There are quite the headbangers down there at Bar Wotever, and I ended up playing my two secret weapons (as well as other metal tracks) along with some of my favourite wonderfully weird tracks such as William Shatner’s version of Pulp’s "Common People" and Nick Cave’s version of Pulp’s "Disco 2000". I was pretty much a resident DJ at Bar Wotever until I moved. Now I DJ too irregularly but get about now and again throughout Europe.

Other favourite tracks: Peaches’ cover of Electric Six’s "Gay Bar", Electric Six’s cover of Peaches’ "Rock Show", Anything by Fischerspooner, Anything by Joan (Truly Kaput and the Battys along with anything else I can get of her back catalogue), Leonard Cohen’s "Take This Waltz" and "I'm Your Man" (amongst others) Marilyn Manson’s "This is the New Shit" (this one I think I am going to use for a dance piece soon), Gogol Bordello's "Start Wearing Purple", The Magnetic Fields anything… and lots lots more.

Was interviewed by G3 Magazine ("Ultimate guide for gay and bi urban women") in April 2006 about my DJing. You can download the full magazine here, and you can see the article below.
